How to use the Facebook to MP3

Where does the conversion happen?

In your browser. Our server only resolves the link and streams the video through; the decoding and MP3 encoding both run on your own machine using the Web Audio API and an encoder in a background worker. The audio is never processed on a server, which is also why the tool can be free.

Why does it take a few seconds?

Because a real conversion is happening rather than a file being renamed. The video is downloaded, its audio track decoded to raw samples, and those samples encoded to MP3. A short clip takes a moment; a long video takes proportionally longer. The work runs in a background worker so the page stays responsive.

What bitrate is the MP3?

It is encoded at 128 kbps in stereo, which suits the audio Facebook ships inside its videos. Encoding higher would inflate the file without recovering detail that the original had already lost.

Why did my link fail?

The usual causes are a post with no video, a private group video, a deleted post, or a link to a profile rather than a specific post. Photo and text posts have no audio to extract.

Is it free and does it need an account?

It is free with no account and nothing to install. A modest rate limit applies to the link lookup, but the conversion runs on your device and is not limited at all.

Can I use the audio in my own videos?

Be careful. The soundtrack usually belongs to whoever made the video, or to a music rights holder, and extracting it does not grant you a licence. Personal listening is one thing; publishing the audio in your own work can trigger a copyright claim.
